It’s a big year for Belgian designer Alain Gilles, who has launched a slew of curvaceous new products including a foosball table, a furniture series for Vincent Sheppard, and the inaugural collection for kitchen accessories brand Evolution.
has applied his refined touch to dozens of objects, turning out sleek and covetable designs at every turn. These three are no different, and speak to the award-winning Belgian designer’s penchant for turning the ordinary into something extraordinary.
Kitchen Tools for For the newly founded kitchen brand, Gilles looked to traditional French and European culinary tools and reimagined them for a contemporary kitchen. The inaugural four-piece collection includes a cake tray that doubles as a serving bowl (and fits together compactly for easy storage); a wooden cutting board and peelings scoop that slide neatly into one another; a carafe with easy-grip pouring handle; and a chunky cooking thermometer with an external display that indicates ideal temperatures. Featuring non-toxic silicone elements in muted pastels, Gilles has elevated the everyday pieces to display-worthy objects. Copper versions of three of the pieces are also available, thanks to a partnership with French cookware manufacturer .
The Pure Foosball Table for Putting a high-design spin on the classic table-top game, Gilles presents a scene-stealing object d’art that no longer needs to be relegated to the basement. With a nod to Nordic design, Pure boasts a warm yet playful composition that softens and thins out the typical chunky, box-like construction. Slender, slightly splayed legs support the basin-like gaming surface – both in oak with an acrylic casing – while the players have been transformed into chromed aluminum sculptures. An all-black version is also available.
Contour Side Table Collection for Defined by super minimal lines, these tables have an almost delicate appearance, yet deliver a hefty dose of graphic impact. Built around a durable steel framework, the tables are offered with various surface variations – solid teak, smoked glass or slatted HPL laminate – with thin profiles that contribute to the pared-back aesthetic. The use of rugged materials makes the series as suitable for outdoor use as for indoors, and their refined style transitions beautifully into any setting.
