Giant organic blobs made of sheer nylon suspended from the ceiling, and enormous crocheted sculptures hanging underneath tent-like covers – a new show transforms the gallery in Vienna into immersive, sensual spaces.
Running until October 25, the exhibition is entitled Aru Kuxipa / Sacred Secret. The collaboration by Rio de Janeiro artist Ernesto Neto and the Huni Kuin, natives of the Peruvian Amazon rainforest, aims to shed light on plant knowledge and the spiritual nature of objects, such as maracas, feathers, kuripe (blowpipes), woven works, and jiboia (snakes). Within the exhibit are descriptions of planet species used by the Huni Kuin and their applications in various curative treatments.
Aru Kuxipa / Sacred Secret is the latest artist-centred initiative by TBA21 that brings together unconventional projects devoted to social and environmental concerns.
