1 Laneway house built by Alair Homes

The charming 48-square-metre dwelling, designed by Gaile Guevara and her team at Modern604, was the centre of attention at this year’s show. Finishings included quartz veneer cladding by Caesarstone; interior privacy screens in smart glass by Vario Glass; a Minimal kitchen; audiovisual and smart home technology by Millson; and lighting by Bocci. The house was auctioned for $230,000, with all proceeds going to the Alzheimer Society of British Columbia.

2 Kelly Deck’s setting for Monogram Dinner by Design

Produced by The Social Concierge, the Vancouver edition of Monogram Dinner by Design tasked a selection of established local design studios to re-imagine the dinner table setting. Interior designer Kelly Deck’s concept was dramatic and Scandinavian smooth all at once. The pièce de résistance, however, was the cross-stitched wall and ceiling installation in coral, emerald and cream hues.

3 Bow table by IZM

Simplicity rules with the latest addition to IZM’s wood furniture line. The Edmonton company launched Bow, a solid wood bar-height table that can be used for dining or as a worktop.

4 The Bar by Rollout

The show’s central hub was re-imagined by custom wallpaper design studio Rollout as a cabin-cool hangout – West Coast style. Outfitted with furnishings by Tom Dixon and B&B Italia supplied by Inform Interiors, the space’s wall coverings included a knitted sweater motif adorned with a campfire and matches, and an enlarged image of Brent Comber’s massive Shattered Light wall fixture.

5 Stools by MTH Woodwooks and Post Riot Board rug by Burritt Bros

Michael Thomas Host and Tanja Hinder of MTH Woodworks presented stools (left) made from old-growth western red cedar that are topped with smooth organic resin made from soybeans and peanuts. For the Post Riot Board rug (right), Burritt Bros took inspiration from the plywoods boards covered in messages from city residents that sealed the windows broken following the Vancouver Canucks’ Stanley Cup final loss in 2011.

6 Elemental V light by Vanessa Leung and Miguel Brovhn

Using the largest size of Miguel Brovhn’s durable and recyclable Tyvek storage bags in white and neon orange, designer Vanessa Leung fashioned a funky ceiling fixture. Each bag in the cluster is fitted with its own light source, brightly illuminating Alair Homes’ space below.

7 Montauk teams up with Adad Hannah

Displaying only a select number of pieces, including the Charlotte sofa, the Chieftain lounge chair and the Oscar daybed, Montauk partnered with Canadian artist Adad Hannah for its provocative backdrop. Called After a Gentle Storm, the image is part of a series co-produced by the San Antonio Museum of Art and features objects from the museum’s collection.

8 Bench by Brent Comber and wine storage system by Vin de Garde

Wood whisperer extraordinaire, Brent Comber, exhibited a collection of pieces including this solid wood bench (left). Wine cellar design company Vin De Garde showed off Hive (right), it’s modular wall panel system that allows oenophiles to create an artistic display of favourite vinos.
