This position creates striking and compelling imagery and design solutions across multiple platforms including print and publications, outdoor, signage, direct mail and digital (secondary support). The ideal candidate has a passion for arts and culture will use extensive knowledge of specialized design concepts, media, and software tools to develop comprehensive layouts and the production of marketing materials/tools. This role oversees brand integrity and consistency, in addition to project management and print production, and will be responsible for the following:

  • Presenting multiple, uniquely creative concepts for review by senior stakeholders
  • Demonstrating illustrative skills with rough sketches and working on layouts ready for print
  • Designing printed materials, direct mail, advertising artwork and campaign identities, signage, reports, presentations and other graphic materials
  • Working as part of a team with printers, copywriters, other designers, web developers and marketing specialists
  • In Collaboration with the Marketing Coordinator, reviewing project specifications with staff to determine timelines and quality of work
  • Using innovation to redefine a design brief within the constraints of cost and time
  • Managing projects through to completion with superb attention to detail, providing print-ready digital files to vendors
  • Proofreading to produce accurate and high-quality work
  • Finding vendors that produce high-quality work at competitive prices
  • Create visual identities that work across multiple media types
  • Overseeing the work of a junior graphic designer (hired on before the festival)
  • Working with a range of media including the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Other duties, as assigned

Qualifications & Education

  • Degree in graphic arts, design or equivalent experience
  • 0+ years’ success in graphic arts, production, print media and publications, digital design, branding, direct mail, packaging, event and outdoor design
  • Minimum of 5 years working experience in advertising, communications strategies and tactics
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) with proficiency in both OS X and Windows environments
  • Advanced skill in art direction, creative design, illustration, photography and iconography, with an outstanding portfolio of work across multiple media
  • Non-profit visual and/or performing arts experience a significant asset
