As the Manager, Community Planning, you will lead, manage and direct Coordinators to ensure an end to end service model for planning policy development to implementation.  You will be the main for Council and all stakeholders and will work across the other geographical areas weekly or daily to provide cohesive, seamless and customer centric services. Primary duties include:
  • Coach, mentor, and provide performance management to a team of coordinators while ensuring quality, service standards and performance metrics are met.
  • Lead the outcome-based decision making model and collaborate across the business unit to support the development of both internal and internal clients; guide staff through the change management efforts with agreed upon outcomes.
  • Participate in the development of the strategic direction to set up business work plans.
  • Identify issues that will arise and impact operations within the business unit.
  • Represent Community Planning, The City at Council and other internal and external stakeholders.
  • Oversee the administration of processes and projects within approved budgets and timelines.
  • A degree in Planning or a related field.
  • A minimum of 10 years of related experience including progressively more responsible supervisory experience.
  • Experience with associated regulatory and legislative information such as Land use Bylaw, Municipal Development Plan (MDP), Calgary Transportation Plan (CTP), and the Municipal Government Act (MGA).
  • Previous experience with project management, planning, developing employees or teams.
  • Membership with the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP), Alberta Professional Planners Institute (APPI) or American Planning Association (APA) will be considered an asset.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to develop and retain a team of professional staff.
  • Strategic and analytical thinker with a focus on problem solving complex issues.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to develop credibility with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate good judgment and decision making skills.
