The enlarged human iris doubles as a room divider with a circular mirror mounted to the opposite side and stationed above twin bathroom sinks. It’s a captivating feature, and one of many wildly vibrant details that define this new beach-side hotel, operated by the Iberostar Group, a resort company owned by Spanish billionaire Miguel Fluxà Rosselló.
Wanders fans will no doubt recognize many of the furnishings, carpets, and lighting. Most of the pieces are pulled from the collections of Dutch furniture company , for which Wanders serves as art director. Moooi is well-known for its playful irreverence, creating such now-iconic pieces as a life-size horse lamp (2006) and an octopus-like chandelier made of task lamps (2003). The same love for theatrical surprise is played out at Grand Portal Nous to perfection, like a giant playground for Wanders to create the whimsical interiors he’s renowned for.
Themed rooms include the Naughty suite, where guests are introduced to seductive materials and textures, and the Stargazer suite, which offers uninterrupted views of the sun, sky and stars. The Game suite is filled with toys.
